Welcome to Year 4! Year 4 is a very exciting, we will try to make your lessons informative, challenging and fun!
We will expect you to carry on growing as independent learners and continue building on good practices you have learnt as you continue moving forward in KS2.
You will improve your spelling knowledge and will enjoy seeing your writing develop as you learn to use lots of different sentence structures. In maths we will challenge your mathematical reasoning and help you improve your mental maths strategies.
We look forward to you joining our year 4 team on our exciting journey!
Children in St Peter’s Class are taught by Mrs Zokra. The teaching assistant in this class is Mrs D Martin.
Home Learning Expectation Weekly Reading We have a specific evening set aside on the homework timetable for reading when you can complete a longer session of reading at home, but we expect that you should be spending some time reading every night where possible.

Literacy and Maths Pupils will also receive a literacy and a maths task to complete every week in their Mental Arithmetic and English Skills books. Only one test should be completed in these books per week and the details of which one can be seen on the homework sheet. These will be marked together in class on Thursday and given back out on a Friday.
Multiplication and division Children will be given a set off multiplication or division facts to learn every week. These will be tested in class most mornings throughout the week.
St Francis will be holding a topic homework fayre on Friday 19th October after school. This
will be an open event for your children to lead you around the hall to celebrate all the
wonderful projects that children have carried out with their parents at home. You can go as
small or big as you like, with tasks ranging from fact files/posters to 3D models. Pupils will
need your support with this project and the more involved you are, the more they will learn
from the experience.
Class Jobs/Monitors At the beginning of the year, the class votes for a representative from the class to be part of the school council. Members of the school council meet to discuss new ideas with teachers and feed back to the class.
PE Lessons are on Monday and Tuesday.
Your child will need:
Coat (with a hook so that it can be hung on the peg easily)
Reading book and reading record book
School homework diary
Sun hat and sun cream already applied during sunny weather
Children may (but do not have to) bring a pencil case into school for use in some afternoon subjects. This must be small and may only contain certain items. See Mrs Zokra for a full list.
Please make sure all of your child’s belongings are clearly named.
St Peter is located five classrooms down the corridor on the right, just past the library and opposite the computer suite. Access to the playground is via the path at the side of the school.
Mrs Zokra will be available at the end of the school day for any concerns.
