Welcome – Year 1 is fun.  This year you will grow into even more independent learners.   We will expect you to be able to empty your book bag of the things you need for the day.  You will be introduced to a more structured curriculum which will include writing more independently, learning even more about numbers and being introduced to new areas of the curriculum like Science.

I think you will particularly enjoy working and learning about the place we live, weather, healthy living and pirates.

We expect your writing, reading and maths work to develop as you grow and become more confident in your own learning.

Home Learning expectations

Weekly Reading
We would like you to read every night at home to an adult or a much older sibling,  when you have read your book please ensure that the adult who has listened signs the book so you can get a new one.  We will aim to change the books daily if they have been signed!!

Weekly Spellings
Once we feel you are ready; spelling will be introduced when appropriate.  They will be given to you on a Friday for you to learn over the weekend ready to be tested on a Tuesday.  The spellings will either be phonic related or some of the high frequency words we think you should be spelling in your writing.

Other homework
As with spellings we will introduce other homework when we feel you are ready for it.  This maybe topic related or something for literacy or maths.  Again you will receive this on a Friday ready to be completed over the weekend and given back on the Tuesday.
